Last shot a final four mystery6/8/2023 His three pointer won the game and the FBI took Whiting to jail. I wasn’t sure what he was going to do because it was a tough decision. My favorite part of the book was when Chip made the choice to win the game. He wants to help Chip because he knows it is the right thing to do. My favorite character is Stevie because he wants everything to be right. I wonder what I would have done if I was told to lose a game on purpose. I got mad when I read what Whiting said to Chip about losing the game of purpose because both of them will remember that for the rest of their lives. When I was reading, I felt surprised that Stevie and Susan actually wanted to help Chip because they would have needed a lot of evidence that they heard the conversation. Then they have to talk to other people that they trust who will believe them and not think they’re crazy. They have trouble getting through the security guards, but they eventually get to see him. He also threatens to get Chip’s dad fired. Whiting threatens that he will turn in a fake report card into the NCAA with F’s on it, so Chip will get in trouble and the team will be stripped of all its wins. Main characters Stevie and Susan overhear Thomas Whiting telling Minnesota State star player Chip Graber to lose the championship game or else…. Fast food nation pages6/8/2023 He travels to Las Vegas for a giddily surreal franchisers' convention where Mikhail Gorbachev delivers the keynote address. He hangs out with the teenagers who make the restaurants run and communes with those unlucky enough to hold America's most dangerous job - meatpacker. Schlosser's myth-shattering survey stretches from the California subdivisions where the business was born to the industrial corridor along the New Jersey Turnpike where many of fast food's flavors are concocted. That's a lengthy list of charges, but Eric Schlosser makes them stick with an artful mix of first-rate reportage, wry wit, and careful reasoning. Fast food has hastened the malling of our landscape, widened the chasm between rich and poor, fueled an epidemic of obesity, and propelled the juggernaut of American cultural imperialism abroad. Though created by a handful of mavericks, the fast food industry has triggered the homogenization of our society. To a degree both engrossing and alarming, the story of fast food is the story of postwar Amerca. Atwood trilogy6/7/2023 This is demonstrated in Oryx and Crake with the lifecaster Anna K., who broadcasts every aspect of her life on the Internet. Both within the world of Oryx and Crake and our real world, artists utilize that discomfort to evoke feelings in viewers. Besides exposing us to harm, there’s a sense of discomfort associated with exposing our inner lives to the world. This is an extension of the fear that every middle schooler has, that someone will read their sincerest innermost thoughts (usually in the form of a diary, or in my day, a blog on Xanga), but with actual real-world ramifications. For instance, written records are forbidden, and there is only one laptop available, concealed by the Adams and Eves. Adam One is highly aware of this monitoring, which is reflected in the way in which he chooses to run the God’s Gardeners. Even written records can prove to be dangerous and always subject to the gaze of outsiders. Whether it’s Google Analytics watching where we choose to spend our time on the Internet, or more malicious forms of spyware scanning for the input of valuable data, it’s always taking place in some way. Julian of norwich shewings6/7/2023 AUTHOR: The 14th-century author of this book was a recluse and spiritual counselor who dwelt at the Church of St. This edition contains both the short text, which is mainly an account of the shewings and Julian's initial analysis of their meaning, and the long text, completed some 20 years later and offering daringly speculative interpretations. Written in immediate, compelling terms, her experiences remain among the most original and accessible expressions of medieval mysticism. Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love have had a lasting influence on Christian thought. The holy woman's petitions were answered with a series of divine revelations that she called "shewings." Her mystic visions revealed Christ's sufferings with extreme intensity, but they also confirmed God's constant love for humanity and infinite capacity for forgiveness. The fourteenth-century anchorite known as Julian of Norwich offered fervent prayers for a deeper understanding of Christ's passion.
